Cullum and Nightingale Ltd, the successful architects in our invited competition, have produced an imaginative and sympathetic design for Foundation House.  Using local contactors and indigenous materials such as recycled flattened oil drums for  the roof and techniques, construction of the foundry is well under way and we hope the whole project can be completed within three years.

Architects’ Statement:

“It is our intention that the Ruwenzori Sculpture Foundation should be accommodated in buildings which use largely local materials and that are as efficient as possible in their use of energy and resources. While the main buildings, which accommodate functions that are unprecedented in this part of the world, will inevitably be different from any buildings around (creating a unique presence in the landscape) we feel it very important that they should fit sympathetically into their natural environment."
